Bardonecchia sits at 1312 meters in Susa Valley in western Piedmont, at point where Italian Alps meet French border and where Fréjus rail tunnel to France begins. Town has been ski destination since early 20th century and hosted Alpine skiing at 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, and landscape around it has partiuclar high Alpine character where valley floor is broad and flat and mountains go up on all sides to elevations that make town feel correctly located in way that more gradual terrain doesn't produce.
Immediate area around hotel is central Bardonecchia, which is real Italian town doing normal Italian town operations alongside its ski function - bars that open early for coffee and aperitivo, restaurants with actual menus rather than tourist menus, piazza that functions as social space rather than decorative one. Ski area connects directly to town and lift infrastructure is integrated well enough that morning sequence from street to slope is shorter than in many comparable Alpine resorts where village and ski area are separate systems connected by shuttle.
Ski terrain in Bardonecchia covers four connected valleys with range of difficulty parameters that intermediate skiers will find majority of runs correct for their level, advanced skiers have access to steeper Valletta and Colle della Rho sectors, and beginners have correctly designed learning zones that aren't in way of faster traffic. Snow reliability at this elevation is good by Italian Alpine standards and west-facing aspects hold snow in reasonable condition later into afternoon than south-facing alternatives.
French border access from Bardonecchia, Montgenèvre and Clavière connection, extends skiing available to guests with car into Milky Way ski area which is one of larger interconnected systems in western Alps. French side charges French prices and Italian side charges Italian prices and difference is partiuclar variable that guests who've skied both sides consistently mention when calculating total trip cost. Hotel's location on Italian side of that equation is definitley better value position.
