Winter in
Bardonecchia

The town of Bardonecchia is certainly one of the most exclusive snow holiday resorts and in 2006 was chosen to host the competitions of the XX Winter Olympics. The tradition of alpine skiing in Bardonecchia dates back to more than a century ago. In 1908 a group of inhabitants of the valley and brave pioneers of the sport introduced into Italy by Adolf Kind gathered to found the Ski Club of Bardonecchia (one of the oldest in Italy).

In 1909 the first Italian ski championship was organised and a huge springboard was built and named after Smith brothers from Norway who set the world record of that time.
